My Singapore Project 2014: Moments Of Love

Although I don't have an amazing voice, I have always enjoy singing. It doesn't matter whether it's in the pubs, KTV rooms, when I'm home alone, or the shower, you can bet that I'll be ready to burst into song whenever I have the chance, or whenever any reference is to some song lyrics is made in any conversation. But recently, I was offered the chance to do my part for charity and at the same time have some fun singing along in a song!

Every year, local singer and composer, Lorraine Tan, and her team dedicate their time and effort to create an original music video in celebration of our National Day. Her original "Shine Singapore" was a huge hit last year and some even said that it was better than the official national day song itself. If you missed it, check out the video below:

This year, as part of the President's Challenge 2014, together with CapitaLand Hope Foundation, My Singapore Project is looking to raise funds for 63 different charities. Along with the children from various primary and secondary schools, Members of Parliament and some familiar local personalities, we were invited to record the choir segment of this year's Music Video, entitled "Moments Of Love".

Yes, the violins that you will hear in the background of the music video were actually played by the talented kids from these schools! And also, see if you can spot these familiar local faces in the Music Video too...

We had lots of fun with both the cute little kids...

and the playful adults big kids...

...during the break between the recordings, but when it was time for the recording, we all sung with our hearts and souls.

I hear some of you asking the question "How can this Music Video raise funds for charity?"

Well, technically, by itself it can't. But you can do your part for charity by being a part of the My Singapore 2014: "Moments Of Love" National Day Charity Fund Raising Concert! And of course it is going to be one of the songs being sung during the concert.

Helping out the needy while enjoying a concert at the same time? That's a good deal in my books! So what are you waiting for? Grab your tickets at SISTIC now before they are sold out! Tickets are going at S$168, S$128, S$88, S$68 and S$38.

Even if you are not a fan of concerts, you can still do your part for charity by sponsoring a kid to watch this concert for just $38. All you have to do is to click on the "Sponsor a Kid" button on the SISTIC page and voila you've just earned more karma points!

But wait, there's more!

I've recently been smithed as the the Best 1 Minute Blog in the Smith's Choice Most Awesome Blog Awards by the grand smith-ther himself, Smith Leong.

It doesn't matter that there are no cash/product prizes, no fancy award ceremony and no physical trophy that comes with this award. The most important thing is that this award has advocated to me that apart from the stuffed teddy bears and plastic dinosaurs, there is at least 1 non-non-living thing who is reading my nonsensical blog posts from time to time.

My typical blog readers

Since we are on the topic of how I've recently been affiliated with the word "minute", let's take a step back in time to find out why I actually coined myself as "The Minute Man".

When I first got together with my babygirl Mint Leong, I had already stopped blogging for quite some time. Yes, for those of you who have been following my posts, you would know that I used to blog at a very looooooooonnnnggg time ago.

She forced inspired me to come back to blogging and suggested that I think of a new moniker for myself. After thinking long and hard for a minute or 2, [and scrapping name like tinyman, mrSmall and some others] we finally decided on "The Minute Man".

Minute [My-Nute], not minute [Me-Nit]. As in:

But throughout all the events and meetups that I went to, people started to call me the Minute [Me-Nit] Man even though I introduced myself as the Minute [My-Nute] Man. So I ended up going with the flow and eventually the name kinda stuck.

On hindsight, being called the Minute [My-Nute] Man would probably not have worked out too well either. So I guess The Minute [Me-Nit] Man was the lesser of two evils. And hey, at least it's always a real good conversation starter!

But rest assured this blog won't be another "Gone in 60 Seconds" blog, 'cause I'm definitely here to stay humans.

P.S. Check out my new "Best 1 Minute Blog" fancy sticker on the right column!
